About Parler

The good screen, made of their own day

Screens are part of childhood now. What’s on them doesn’t have to be strangers’ videos that keep playing. In Parler, a child’s own day becomes a book about the people they love, in the languages your family speaks, and then the book is over.

Why their own day

Parents know the problem. They still need the screen.

Three in four US parents call too much screen time a big problem. Mott Poll, 2025. Daily YouTube use among 2–4 year olds rose from 38% to 51%. Pew, 2025. Autoplay is what we’re up against: the next video starts, and the child had no part in it.

We’re not trying to be another language app, or an AI storybook maker that writes a fantasy for you. Your child tells what really happened, the people in it are ones you approved, and the book has a last page.

We’re building first for families raising children in more than one language. Grandparents who speak it, a parent who grew up with it, cousins far away. Parler turns a child’s day into a book those people can read, hear and answer. The research page has our sources, and what they don’t show.

How it was made

From one page to a whole family

  1. 1It started with a picture bookThe first version of Parler did one thing: photograph a page of a French picture book and hear it read aloud, each word lighting up as it was spoken. That is still in the app today.
  2. 2Then it became their own storiesNext came books about the child: their weekend, their friends, their grandparents. Parler learned to turn what a child says into an illustrated book, drawn with the people they know.
  3. 3Now it brings the family inGrandparents follow along from far away, cards carry a child's voice, and classes make a book each from the same prompt. On iPhone, iPad, the web and class iPads.

Honest about AI

What the AI does, and what it costs

The story starts with your child. AI does the fiddly parts so the time goes to reading together. Here is exactly where it is used. None of it is trained on your family’s data.

  • Writing down what they say

Speech recognition on the device when it can, and a Gemini story coach that tidies it into sentences and asks the next question.

  • Drawing the pictures

Google’s Gemini models on Vertex AI, using only the approved cartoon looks of your child’s cast.

  • Translation

Google Cloud Translation, into every language your child is learning.

  • Voices

Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, with a timing mark on every word for the highlight.

  • Reading scores

Google Cloud Speech-to-Text compares the recording with the sentence, word by word.

  • Scanning a page

Google Cloud Vision finds the words and where they sit on the photo.

Pictures, with the price up front

Only new pictures count toward your plan, and the number is on the button before you tap. Words, translations, voices and reading scores are free. If a picture fails, you get it back. If a picture is wrong, report it and our team takes a look.

What we stand for

Made for children, not for data

  • Privacy

We keep only what the app needs: names, languages, and the stories, recordings and pictures you make. Export or delete it anytime. Never sold, never used for ads.

  • Kids’ safety

Everyone in a story is a cartoon. Every look is approved by a grown-up. Sentences and pictures pass safety checks, and family see only what is sent or shared with them.

  • Honesty

We say where AI is used, show what things cost before you spend, and refund pictures that fail.

  • No ads, no feed

No advertising, no algorithm, no endless scroll, no strangers' videos. Parler is paid for by the families and schools who use it.
